How to Work With Me
TL;DR
- Keep things concise. I don’t need essays. Be direct. Be concise. Skip fluff.
- Try solving the problem first. Come with your approach.
- Bring context + a point of view.
- I value speed, clarity, and ownership over perfection.
- Async first. align quickly when needed.
- If you’re stuck or something is unclear, ask early.
Why this exists
This is to remove guesswork.
As David Politis suggests, a "how to work with me" guide makes implicit preferences explicit so people don’t have to read between the lines or guess how to collaborate
How I Think About Work
I’m a builder first.
I like solving problems, not discussing them endlessly. If something can be tested, prototyped, or validated quickly, that’s usually the right direction.
I naturally think in:
- systems
- trade-offs
- practical outcomes
If something sounds good in theory but doesn’t work in reality, I’ll push back.
I prefer shipping over overthinking. We can iterate. we don’t need perfect upfront.
Momentum matters a lot.
What I Expect From You
Come prepared
Before reaching out:
- Try to solve it yourself
- Write down what you tried
- Tell me where you’re stuck
You’ll get a much better response from me if you come with:
This is what I tried, this is where it failed
Ownership over dependency
I appreciate people who:
- take initiative
- make decisions
- don’t wait to be told every next step
Raise things early
- Ask early if something is unclear
- Raise risks early. not when it’s too late
How to Communicate With Me
Preferred style
- Clear, concise, structured
- Bullet points > long paragraphs
- No over-explaining unless needed
Bad:
Long context with no conclusion
Good:
Context → Problem → Suggested approach → Ask
Be direct
You don’t need to soften things.
Instead of:
Just checking, maybe we could…
Say:
This is blocked because of X. Need your input.
Channels
- Async first (Slack, messages)
- Calls when things are ambiguous or blocking
- Docs for decisions. not just discussion
If something is urgent, say it explicitly. don’t assume I’ll infer it.
What gets my attention fast
- Clear problem statement
- Trade-offs already thought through
- A recommendation, even if imperfect
How to Get Fast Decisions From Me
If you want a quick answer, give me:
- Context in 1 to 2 lines
- Options (A / B / C)
- Your recommendation
Example:
We can do A (fast, messy) or B (clean, slower). I suggest A because of deadline.
If it’s reversible, decide fast and move.
Not everything needs a meeting.
Problem Solving & Decision Making
Approach
- Break things into smaller parts
- Focus on what actually moves the needle
- Avoid unnecessary complexity
If something feels over-engineered, I will push back.
Decision style
- Quick alignment with enough context
- Bias for action
- Prefer progress over perfection
Working With Me on Projects
What I expect
- Ownership. don’t wait to be told next steps
- Keep things moving
- Align on direction before going too deep
What works well
Regular updates (async or weekly) with:
- what’s done
- what’s next
- blockers
Calling out uncertainty clearly instead of guessing silently
What doesn’t work
- Over-polished updates with no substance
- Waiting too long to ask questions
- Doing work without aligning on direction
Feedback Style
How I give feedback
- Direct
- Honest
- Focused on the work, not the person
- Usually quick, not overly detailed
If something is wrong, I’ll say it clearly.
How I like to receive feedback
You won’t offend me by being honest.
- Don’t overthink tone
- Be straightforward
- Say what’s not working
- Suggest improvements if possible
No need to sugarcoat. clarity over comfort.
Under Pressure
- I get more focused and direct
- I prioritize speed and decisions
- I may skip niceties. it’s not personal
If something feels off, call it out.
Things That Might Be Misunderstood
- Short messages ≠ lack of interest
- Direct feedback ≠ personal criticism
- Pushing for speed ≠ ignoring quality
Things That Frustrate Me
- Asking without trying
- Overcomplicating simple problems
- Lack of ownership
- Repeating the same mistake without learning
- Long discussions with no outcome
Things I Value Highly
- Clear thinking
- Speed and quality balance
- Practical problem solving
- Taking initiative
- Communicating early when blocked
My Working Style
- I prefer momentum over perfection
- I’m okay with iteration instead of over-planning
- I’ll challenge ideas, not people
- I care about efficiency a lot
Sometimes this can come across as:
- blunt
- impatient
It’s usually because I’m optimizing for speed and clarity.
When I’m at My Best
- Solving real problems
- Breaking down messy situations
- Making decisions quickly
When I’m Not at My Best
- Too many unnecessary meetings
- Slow decision-making loops
- Lack of clarity in ownership
How to Work Best With Me
- Think first, then keep it short
- Bring solutions, not just problems
- Optimize for clarity over completeness
- Move fast and align often
Bonus. How to Impress Me
- Anticipate problems before they happen
- Simplify something complex
- Take ownership without being asked
- Ship something that actually works
Final Note
This is not fixed.
If something here isn’t working for you, tell me. The goal is to continuously improve how we collaborate.
